Thunderhole area on loop road, Acadia Nat Park

The Park Loop Road is one of the most well known attractions in Acadia National Park.

There is so much to see!

Thunder Hole is named that because under certain conditions the ocean water rushes into this narrow granite channel traps large amounts of air which escapes with a loud thunder like sound. It is unlikely you will be lucky enough to hear Thunder Hole do its thing. The tide level, wind speed and direction as well as the height of the waves crashing onto the shore all play a part in creating the right conditions to create the thunder.
